What is a Medication Technician?
Medication Technicians work closely with nurses to provide quality care for patients. Med techs are tasked with taking blood pressure readings and patient temperatures. They assist with medications prepared by a nurse or pharmacist. Med techs must have strong verbal communication skills to explain care plans and treatment modalities to patients and their families. They must also accurately communicate patient symptoms and responses to those care plans and treatments with doctors and nurses.

What do Medication Techs Do?
Certified Medication Aides are responsible for providing patients with their medications, ensuring that the correct medications are given at the right time, and making sure that the correct dosage of each medication is given. They also must ensure that medications are delivered correctly – for example, with food or water.
Medication Technicians, Med Techs, and Med Aides must document each medication they administer (recording both dosages and times given), guide patients on how to take medications properly, and report any patient changes or adverse reactions to the supervising RN or physician.
